Monday: Good times with museums and soccer

Today we followed the art history class to the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, which holds some of the original artwork that is no longer in the Duomo or has been replaced by replicas. These were the highlights.

Original panel from Ghiberti's "Gates of Paradise", a term coined by Michelangelo, who used to walk by the doors everyday. The panels currently on the doors are replicas.
Michelangelo's unfinished Pieta
Donatello's Maddalena--how scary is she?

We got out early of Italian again today because of the Italy-Australia World Cup game, so we went to a pub to watch it. Let me just say, it was soooo cool to watch the game with a bunch of Italian and Australian people. They're crazy! In case you didn't hear, Italy won on a penalty kick in overtime. It was intense. I can't wait for the next one! Posted by Picasa
